Finding the Next Generation of Business Leaders

As the lead Visual Designer, I oversaw all branding and design elements for our recruitment events. Having served two terms, I collaborated with two separate teams and created a range of promotional materials, including eye-catching flyers, engaging Instagram posts and Facebook banners, and presentation slide decks. By the end of my term, our chapter increased membership by 35%.

Future You Calling

Find Your Fit

Future You Calling

Context

The tagline "Future You Calling" revolves around self-growth and discovery. As members of Alpha Kappa Psi, our brothers recognize the personal development that each of us has experienced since joining the organization. Personally, joining Alpha Kappa Psi has had a significant impact on my college journey, shaping me into the person I am today. The essence of this theme stems from our own personal experiences, and we aim to share that with potential members who are seeking opportunities for professional and personal growth within a community.

Moodboard

For this design, our team aimed towards a retro, 'Y2K' feel when deciding how to represent the theme. Keeping to a simple, but impactful structure, the focal point of the design was decided to be a large, retro telephone in the middle and the color palette was kept to three colors.

Find Your Fit

Context

The tagline “Find Your Fit” comes from the cumulative experience of students attending UC San Diego. Entering a large campus with over 40,000 students can be an overwhelming experience for anyone and finding one’s place to call ‘home’ becomes difficult when presented with an overload of opportunities. The essence of the theme comes from welcoming those who are still finding their place and hoping they find their place with our fraternity. We wanted to utilize a universal experience shared by UC San Diego students as an element in this event’s branding, which was shown through our puzzle design of the sunset at Scripps Pier.

Moodboard

In comparison to our previous theme, our team wanted to follow a colorful and fun style for our design. We took inspiration from various styles of puzzle pieces in graphic design and decided upon an incomplete puzzle piece, in which the missing piece was meant to represent the potential new members.

Reflection

This was my first time being the lead graphic designer!

This experience really challenged me as a designer because I took sole responsibility over all design decisions! It definitely forced me out of my comfort zone and took a lot of experimentation to come up with the final designs. If I could do it all over again, I would tell myself that it's okay to start with one design and end with another that's completely different because nothing will be perfect on the first try.
